Alameda County DA Announces $350,000 Settlement with Daiso

Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley today announced that Daiso California LLC has agreed to pay a total of $350,000 in civil penalties and costs to settle a Proposition 65 enforcement action brought by the district attorney’s offices of Alameda and Santa Clara counties.


Assembly ESTM Committee Reviews “Informal” Green Chemistry Regulations

OEHHA’s Hexavalent Chromium Proposal Slammed by Industry

California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) today released public comments submitted to the agency by two trade organizations that suggest the agency’s proposal to remove the reference to hexavalent chromium in Section 25707(b)(4) as posing no significant risk when ingested is based on faulty science.


Tox21 Program Begins Automated Chemical Screening of 10,000 Chemicals

high-speed robotic screening system today will begin testing 10,000 chemical compounds for potential toxicity. The compounds cover a wide variety of classifications, and include consumer products, food additives, chemicals found in industrial processes, and human and veterinary drugs.


DTSC Moves Forward with “Informal” Proposed Green Chemistry Regulations

California’s Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) is moving forward with a new draft proposal for regulations that would implement the state’s landmark Green Chemistry Initiative.  The new proposal, released on Oct. 31, follows two failed proposals which met with heavy criticism by environmental and public health groups, scientists, and industry causing DTSC to go back to the drawing board.
